Crooked River Ranch
has changed hands several times since it’s beginnings in 1910 when a Texas oilman named Gates purchased the land. In 1971, it was turned into a recreational site when it was purchased by a family named MacPherson, and then was rezoned in the early 80s as rural residential. Crooked River Ranch has a population today of approximately 4,000, and it is steadily growing. Located in central Oregon, 12 miles northwest of Redmond in Jefferson County, Crooked River Ranch is in the heart of Oregon’s four-season playground. The ranch itself has approximately 12,000 acres including a golf course, tennis courts, ball field, swimming pool and clubhouse. There are also several tracts of open land that is administered by the Department of the Interior and is available for hiking, fishing, riding and hunting. The nearby Deschutes and Crooked Rivers, with their deep gorges and cool, clear water offer more opportunities for fishing, boating and hiking. And, several lakes and reservoirs in the region are great for swimming, picnicking, fishing and water skiing. The Cascade Mountains, near Crooked River Ranch, offer rock climbing and hiking and in wintertime, snow skiing and other winter sports at Mt. Bachelor.

Central Oregon has a varied climate, depending on elevation and proximity to the mountains. In general, you can expect a high desert climate with lots of sunshine and low humidity. The days are usually sunny and clear with cool nights year round, but each region may vary slightly. Most areas of central Oregon see over 300 days of sunshine each year. Central Oregon's temperatures are warm in summer and cool in winter, and precipitation can come in the form of rain, sleet, hail or snow, but is generally less than twelve inches per year. If it snows, it is usually between Thanksgiving and February, and often melts off during the day due to the high levels of sunshine. Surface winds prevail out of the south and southeast from October to February, then from west to northwest in the remaining months. Wind speeds average from 5 to 7 mph most months.

The closest airports in the area are Roberts Field (RDM) located about 12 miles south of Crooked River Ranch in Redmond, Oregon, the City-County airport (S33) located approximately 17 miles north of Crooked River Ranch in Madras, Oregon, the Prineville airport (S39) located roughly 19 miles southeast of Crooked River Ranch in Prineville, Oregon, and finally the Bend Municipal airport (S07) located around 22 miles south of Crooked River Ranch in Bend, Oregon.
