Fall-River
is located six miles southwest of Sunriver and 19 miles from Bend, Oregon on Highway 97. Near the Cascade Mountains in the central part of the state, the Fall River area offers a multitude of outdoor recreational activities. Take your pick from mountain biking, hiking, fishing, wildlife viewing and birdwatching, canoeing, kayaking and white water rafting. There is a 3.5-mile trail that follows the north side of the Fall River, which offers great river views and an old growth ponderosa pine forest. Another short trail follows the south side of the river, across a footbridge and to the Fall River Campground. Snow skiing, sledding, cross country skiing and snowmobiling are available at nearby Mt. Bachelor, and since central Oregon enjoys 300 days of sunshine per year, that means plenty of time to enjoy wintertime fun. LaPine State Park and the Newberry Crater National Monument are just a short drive from Fall River, and underground cave tours are available at the Lava River Caves. The nearby town of Sunriver offers three public golf courses and 28 tennis courts, plus a variety of art galleries, restaurants and ski shops. Bend, which is a bustling city bordered by the Deschutes National Forest offers more services and shopping choices, including outdoor cafes, boutiques, fine restaurants and art galleries.

Central Oregon enjoys 300 days of sunshine per year with low humidity levels and an arid climate. Any variation in the weather depends on elevation and proximity to the mountains. Central Oregon temperatures are basically warm in the summer and cold in the winter, but temperatures drop in the evenings year round due to the high elevation of the region. The Cascade Mountains keeps most of the precipitation over the valleys and on the coast, so Central Oregon receives very little rain. Occasional showers occur during spring and summer, and occasional sleet, hail or snow is possible in the winter. Snow usually falls during the evening and melts off during the day, and averages around 8 inches in January.
