Netarts
is a small, friendly town just off Highway 101 on the Oregon coast near the town of Tillamook. The town of Netarts is the gateway to Netarts Bay, which is teaming with fish, Dungeness crabs, oysters and clams, making it very popular for fishing, crabbing and clamming. The town of Netarts is protected from the ocean by the long Netarts Spit. You can rent a boat at Netarts boat launch and ride to the spit where you can picnic and enjoy the day on five miles of pristine, secluded beach. Just south of Netarts is the Cape Lookout State Park. This scenic park has camping and picnic sites, and a nature trail along which you can hike and observe and identify many different types of native plants. Nearby beaches are perfect for kite flying, sunbathing, collecting shells or taking long walks at sunset. Other activities in the Netarts area includes horseback riding, surfing, hang gliding, windsurfing, canoeing, kayaking and golf. There several good restaurants in the town of Netarts, and antiques shops, unique gift shops, seafood markets and art galleries to explore in surrounding towns. The Tillamook County Rodeo and Dairy Parade is usually held in June, and the Tillamook County Fair is usually held in August.

The North Coast Region of Oregon has a climate with strong marine influences. Summers are generally cool and winters are moderate. Westerly winds are predominant from the northwest during the summer and from the southwest in the winter. These winds from the ocean bring heavy rainfall in winter and fog in the summer. The Oregon Pacific coastal zone is characterized by wet winters, relatively dry summers and mild temperatures all year. Along the lower elevations on the immediate coast, annual precipitation is between 65 to 90 inches, but on higher elevations on the west slopes, it can be up to 200 inches. Several days of abundant rainfall can cause floods. Snowfall on the coast is minimal. Extreme high or low temperatures are rare.
