Powell Butte
is an unincorporated community of approximately 2,000 residents, nestled at the foot of the Powell Butte range with breathtaking views of the Cascades and Smith Rock. It is situated between the towns of Redmond and Prineville, and the area has traditionally been a ranching and farming community. Powell Butte boasts a school, church, a general store and is the site of a new 1,800-acre golf resort. Definitely considered “rural living,” Powell Butte is attracting more and more residents, especially retirees due to its dry, sunny climate and stunning views (and “still affordable” land prices.) Also, with its central location, Powell Butte has easy access to all types of outdoor recreation, such as fishing, hiking, rock climbing, biking, snow skiing and golf. Most anything that can’t be found in Powell Butte is available within a half-hour’s drive. Smith Rock State Park is considered to have some of the country’s best rock climbing and fly-fishing is popular on the Metolius, Deschutes and Crooked Rivers. Nearby Mt. Bachelor offers cross-country skiing and snowmobiling on trails throughout central Oregon. As yet, an “undiscovered gem” of central Oregon, Powell Butte makes a perfect vacation destination for those looking for something different.

The Northwest Region of Oregon, near the city of Portland, enjoys a year round mild climate, with much less rain than the stereotype cities of the rainy Pacific Northwest. On average, this region of the state receives less rainfall than that of Atlanta, Houston, Indianapolis or Seattle. That%u2019s not to say it never rains here %u2013 it receives an average of 36.3 inches per year, mostly in the winter and early spring. The Pacific Ocean is an influencing factor on the climate, which helps moderate temperatures year round. Rarely is there severe weather such as tornadoes or flooding. Hailstorms usually occur each year, but are generally light and cover small areas. The north coastal area receives the least amount of sunshine in the state.
