Cascade-Locks
is a beautiful city located in the heart of the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area. The city is just 45 minutes from the Portland International Airport and is directly across the river from Stevenson, Washington. Situated in a place of great natural beauty and rich in history, the town of Cascade Locks was once called Whiskey Flats but got its' present colorful name from a series of locks built in 1896 on the Columbia River. The town is also the starting point of the Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail. Although a small town, Cascade Locks caters to tourists and has many services such as dining and lodging, as well as a marina and boat launch, small airport, camping and local arts and crafts shops and antiques. Activities abound in the area, including hiking, biking, fishing, boating, sailing, windsurfing and kiteboarding. The Columbia Wilderness Area is also found in the hills located above the town. Located within a thirty-minute drive of Cascade Locks are several major attractions, including the Columbia Gorge Discovery Center, Columbia Gorge Interpretive Center & Museum and the Bonneville Locks and Dam. The Sternwheeler Columbia Gorge is based in Cascade Locks and makes daily two-hour excursions on the river, including a narrative on the local history of the area.

Cascade Locks Weather & Climate
Northwest Oregon, near Portland, enjoys a mild climate with only occasional severe weather elements such as tornadoes, hailstorms, or high winds. The single most important factor in the climate is the Pacific Ocean. Due to the normal movement of air masses from west to east, most of the systems moving across Oregon have been modified extensively after traveling over the Pacific Ocean. As a result, winter temperatures and summer maximum temperatures are greatly moderated. However, the northwestern corner of the state does receive abundant rainfall. Near the coast, the average annual snowfall is only one to three inches, with many years in which there is no measurable amount at all. Hailstorms occur each year, but are generally light and cover small areas. The north coastal area has the least amount of sunshine each year, while the southeast corner of the state has the most.
